David W. Henson, 83, of Marmet, formerly of Dawes and Brooksville, Fla., died May 24, 2008, in Hubbard Hospice House, Charleston.He retired from Bethlehem Mining Corporation, Kayford, W.Va., after 35 years of service, and was currently employed at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet. He was a US Army 78th Infantry Division veteran of World War II, where he received the Purple Heart and Bronze Star.
David was a member of Marmet First Baptist Church, Masonic Lodge 158 at Chelyan, The Scottish Rite of Charleston and The 78th Infantry Division Association.
He was preceded in death by his son, Bob Browning of Chelsea, Mich.
Surviving are wife, Mary Helen Smith Browning Henson, who resides with her daughter at Pinch; daughters, Fran Critchfield and husband David of Zanesville, Ohio, Sherry Goldsburg and husband Bobby of Pinch, and Diana Lynn Casto and husband Dan of Marmet; sisters, Lillian Parker Mura of Kansas City, Mo., and Sylvia Hogan of Ozark, Mo.; seven grandchildren, Tammy Browning-Smith (Dale), Tiffaney Tscherne (Frank), Kristie Long (Eli), Joshua Williams, Gina Bostic, Emily Fleck (Rob), and Alan McClure; and three great-granddaughters, Kassidy Ann Long, Hunter Paige Long, and Sarah Marie Fleck.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at Leonard Johnson Funeral Home, Marmet, with the Rev. Rick Watson and the Rev. Bobby Goldsburg officiating. Burial will follow in Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Cross Lanes.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, May 26, 2008, at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in David's honor to Hubbard Hospice House, 1001 Kennawa Dr., Charleston, WV 25311.
Also, the family would like to send a very special thank you to Dr. Jaggannath, Dr. Sarah Nease, Dr. Glenn Wright, Dr. Ridenour, Dr. K. Reahl, the nursing staff at 3 W Memorial, and the staff at Hubbard Hospice House for their loving care and compassion as they cared for our father.
